VLS – flatbed scanner

VLS  flatbed scanner for very large material

This scanner was originally made for accurately scanning engineering drawings for the airplane manufacturing industry. To our knowledge this is the largest flatbed scanner ever made. It’s scanning surface is 1780 mm x 5000 mm (~ 70 inches x 200 inches) and the maximum resolution is 1200 DPI!

  • The scanning surface is a vacuum table. The table is divided into 12 separate sections. The vacuum of the sections can be turned on/off depending on the size of the material.

The camera is mounted on the vertical beam/travers and moves up and down along this. The traverse moves horizontally along the  +5 meter long ball screw.

Advanced calibration techniques are performed regularity to secure a guaranteed accuracy of 0,005 inch for any point on the scanning surface.

The system is equipped with a color camera. Normally grey scale or binary scanning is performed on the engineering drawings.
